Profession Guides
All 34+ professions, hybrid builds, and tips for mastering the Pre-CU skill system.
The Skill System
SWG Infinity runs the original Pre-CU skill system — no levels, no class locks, pure build freedom.
Star Wars Galaxies Pre-CU uses a box-based skill system. Every profession is divided into branches, and you advance by purchasing individual skill boxes using XP earned in-game. There is no level cap — your character is defined entirely by which skill boxes you have trained.
Each elite profession has 4 branches (Novice → four columns → Master), and each box has an XP cost you must earn before purchasing. You start with 250 skill points total — mastering a single profession costs around 152 points, leaving plenty of room to branch into a second profession for a hybrid build.
Hybrid builds are not just viable — they are the meta. The most powerful characters in SWG combine two or more professions to cover each other’s weaknesses. Plan your build carefully before you start grinding.
Profession Categories
SWG’s 34+ professions span combat, support, crafting, and the Force.
Combat Professions
Choose your weapon and fighting style. Combat professions include Swordsman, Pikeman, Fencer, Teras Kasi Artist, Pistoleer, Carbineer, Rifleman, Bounty Hunter, and Ranger. Each has a distinct playstyle, range preference, and role in group PvP and PvE.
Support Professions
Keep your group alive and buffed. Support professions include Combat Medic, Medic, Entertainer, Dancer, Musician, and Image Designer. Entertainers and Combat Medics are perennially in demand — a well-built support character is never short of groups.
Crafting Professions
Build the player economy. Crafting professions include Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, Architect, Droid Engineer, Tailor, Chef, and Shipwright. Crafters depend on quality resources — joining a resource-rich guild is essential for high-end production.
Force Professions
The path to the Force is long but rewarding. Jedi is the ultimate elite profession — but it requires completing the Jedi Unlock process first. See our Jedi Unlock Guide for the full path. Force-sensitive characters gain unique combat abilities unavailable to any other profession.
Hybrid Build Examples
Three popular builds to get you started thinking about hybrid combinations.
TKA / Combat Medic
Role: Tank healer
Teras Kasi Artist provides exceptional melee defense and stun abilities while Combat Medic adds group heals and stim packs. One of the most durable solo builds in the game. Ideal for dangerous hunting areas and dungeon tanking.
Pistoleer / Medic
Role: Mobile damage dealer
High mobility pistol combat combined with Medic self-healing makes for a fast, self-sufficient damage dealer. Excellent for mission terminal grinding and open world PvP. Strong in both solo and group content.
BH / Commando
Role: Heavy damage
Bounty Hunter tracking abilities combined with Commando’s heavy weapons create a devastating combination for destroying tough targets. A powerhouse for dungeon clears and structured PvP engagements. Best with a healer at your side.
Using the Skill Calculator
Before you grind a single XP, plan your entire build in our Skill Calculator. The builder lets you click through every skill box, shows point costs in real time, and warns you if you go over the 250-point cap. You can save and share builds via URL to get community feedback before committing.
Use it to:
- ‣ Map out hybrid combinations before committing XP
- ‣ Calculate how many skill points you’ll have left for a splash profession
- ‣ Share your planned build in Discord for feedback
- ‣ Visualise the full skill tree for any profession
Profession Tips
Plan before you grind
Respeccing costs time. Use the Skill Calculator to finalise your build concept before you start spending XP. Knowing your destination from day one means every grinding session has purpose.
Crafting professions need resource networks
The quality of your gear is directly tied to the quality of your raw resources. As a crafter, joining a guild with dedicated harvesters is far more impactful than any skill box you pick. Solo crafters hit a hard ceiling quickly.
Entertainers are always in demand
Entertainer buffs (mind wound healing, action regeneration, combat morale) are non-negotiable in serious groups. A Master Musician or Dancer can always find a group, always earn tips, and is genuinely valued by the community.
Frequently Asked Questions
Technically yes, but practically no — mastering a single elite profession costs around 152 skill points, and you only have 250 total. You can master one elite profession and splash significantly into a second, or take moderate amounts from several. Very few players ever hold two full masters simultaneously; the common approach is one master plus a carefully chosen set of boxes from a support or complementary profession.
There is no single answer — it depends on whether you prefer melee or ranged, solo or group content, PvP or PvE, and how much healing access you want. TKA and Fencer are strong melee options. Pistoleer and Rifleman are popular ranged choices. Bounty Hunter is strong for structured PvP. The Skill Calculator and our Discord community are the best places to get current meta advice.
You can respec your character at any time by surrendering your skill boxes to free up skill points. You will then need to use the correct type of XP with a trainer to train the new profession boxes.
