Galactic Civil War
The galaxy is at war. Every player can choose a side.
The Galactic Civil War
A server-wide persistent conflict between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance.
The Galactic Civil War (GCW) is the backdrop for all faction-based content in Star Wars Galaxies — and on SWG Infinity, it is an active, ongoing server-wide conflict. Every planet is contested. Every player can participate. The outcome shifts based on what players do every day.
Unlike most MMO PvP systems, GCW is not a separate mode you opt into for a queue. It is woven into the world — faction NPCs patrol the streets, player bases dot the landscape, and overt players can be attacked anywhere on any planet. The war is always happening.
You earn Faction Points (FPs) through combat, missions, and base warfare. FPs unlock faction ranks, faction vendors, and unique equipment unavailable through any other means. The higher your rank, the better the gear and the stronger your reputation in the conflict.
Choosing Your Status
Three ways to exist in the Galactic Civil War.
Neutral
You have not declared allegiance to either faction. Neutral players cannot be attacked by other players in PvP, cannot attack flagged players, and cannot earn faction points. You can still interact with both factions’ NPCs without hostility. Good for pure crafters, entertainers, and new players not yet ready to commit.
Covert
You have chosen a side but have not raised your PvP flag. Covert players earn faction points from NPC kills and missions, can access faction vendors at lower tier, and interact with their faction NPCs freely — but cannot attack or be attacked by opposing faction players. Most players operate Covert until ready for active PvP.
Overt
Full PvP flag raised. You can attack — and be attacked by — opposing faction overt players anywhere in the world. Overt status earns significantly more faction points from all sources and is required for base warfare and the highest-tier faction content. The highest risk, the highest reward.
Faction Ranks
Spend faction points to advance through ranks and unlock exclusive rewards.
Recruit
Starting rank. Access to basic faction vendors. The entry point for all new faction members regardless of whether you are Imperial or Rebel.
Corporal
First advancement rank. Unlocks additional vendor options including early faction armour and weapon choices. Achievable with moderate mission grinding.
Sergeant
Mid-tier rank. Improved vendor selection, better faction rewards. The rank most active faction players maintain as a baseline.
Lieutenant
Upper mid-tier. Access to faction vehicles and more advanced gear options. Requires sustained faction grinding to reach.
Captain
Senior rank. Significant vendor unlocks. Respected status in the faction community. Most dedicated GCW players aim for Captain as a medium-term goal.
Colonel
Maximum rank. High-tier faction gear unlocked. Players at this rank are recognisable names in the GCW scene on either side.
Earning Faction Points
Defeat Enemy NPCs
Killing enemy faction NPCs — Imperial stormtroopers, Rebel commandos, faction-aligned creatures — earns faction points. The most consistent solo farming method.
Kill Overt Enemy Players
Killing an opposing faction overt player earns a significant faction point reward. The highest per-kill point value in the game. PvP guilds maximise income this way.
Faction Missions
Faction mission terminals offer combat and other mission types that pay out faction points alongside credits. A reliable method for Covert players who are not yet ready for full PvP.
Destroy Enemy Bases
Attacking and destroying an enemy faction player base rewards massive faction point payouts split among the attacking group. The highest-yield single event in GCW.
Player Bases
Overt players can place Imperial or Rebel base structures in the open world. These bases function as faction strongpoints — they boost nearby faction NPCs, serve as rally points for overt players, and provide tactical advantages in contested areas.
Enemy faction players can attack and destroy these bases.
Base warfare is the most intense form of GCW combat — it requires organised groups, coordination, and commitment. The best GCW guilds maintain and defend permanent base networks while running regular offensive operations against enemy installations.

Neutral players cannot earn faction points or participate in PvP, but they can interact with both factions’ theme parks and general content. To participate in GCW meaningfully, you need to declare a faction (Covert at minimum) and begin earning faction points. Going Overt is required for base warfare and player-vs-player combat.
Neither faction is objectively better — it comes down to community, aesthetics, and the guilds active on each side at any given time. Imperials tend toward heavier armour and disciplined playstyles. Rebels favour agility and adaptability. The best faction is the one your guild is in. Join Discord, ask which faction has active guilds recruiting, and make your choice based on where the community is strongest.
Yes, but with a cost. Switching factions resets your faction points and rank back to zero — you lose all accumulated progress with your old faction. The process also has a waiting period. Faction switching is possible but not something to do casually. Think carefully before committing to a side, and factor in which guilds and communities are active on each faction before you declare.
